Qatar Airways Confirms Durban Launch And Expands In South Africa

Qatar Airways Confirms Durban Launch And Expands In South Africa

Date: 2015-03-06

Durban, this is great news for our city!! Qatar Airways has announced a major expansion of its services to South Africa, with the launch of a new route to Durban as well as increases in flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg. The 787 Dreamliner will be deployed on services to Durban, meaning passengers will be able to experience the next generation aircraft between Doha and all three of Qatar's South African destinations.

From 17th December 2015, Qatar will launch four new weekly flights to Durban via Johannesburg, departing Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This will bring the frequency to Johannesburg from 10 weekly flights to double daily.

Meanwhile from 1st October 2015, the airline will increase frequencies to Cape Town from five weekly flights to daily, ahead of the busy 2015/2016 winter season.

The Qatar Airways Boeing Dreamliner provides 254 seats across Business and Economy Class and boasts wireless internet facilities, enabling all passengers to remain in touch with friends and colleagues throughout the flight. In Business Class, each seat offers ample stowage and boasts a large dining table so passengers can enjoy a 5 star dining experience or work on their laptops. There's also a separate side table and cocktail table for any other items and beverages.

A 6-way customisable headrest, lumbar support and full adjustable back, leg and arm support ensures passengers can sit comfortably throughout the flight. When it comes to entertainment, guests can watch movies and TV shows on a state-of-the-art 17" monitor with noise cancelling headphones and award winning Itouch MPU technology. And when it's time to sleep, the seat converts into a fully flat bed, with Frette linens, an amenity kit, mood lighting and 30% larger windows to enhance the experience.

The new Durban/Johannesburg service will be timed to offer convenient connections to popular routes in Europe and the Far East, including London, Paris, Manchester, Frankfurt, Madrid, Beijing, Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong and more.

Durban is South Africa's second largest manufacturing hub after Johannesburg and is home to a number of major multinational companies, making it a popular route for business travellers. The city is also a popular tourist centre thanks to its warm subtropical climate, sandy beaches and luxury resorts.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said:

"At Qatar Airways we strive to provide our passengers with the best of service levels on ground and on board our modern fleet. We also provide our passengers with a strong global network of business and leisure destinations, and the city of Durban will be a welcome new addition to our extensive route map.

"Durban is an important gateway into South Africa and we are very confident that this route will be warmly welcomed like all our other routes in the African continent."
