Walk with Tafta and make your Mandela minutes count

Walk with Tafta and make your Mandela minutes count

Date: 2017-07-07

Local do-gooders can commit their Mandela minutes to stepping out in support of Durban's elderly by participating in Tafta's 2017 family fun walk.

Recognising that care of the elderly was a cause close to Madiba's heart, Tafta aims to inspire the global icon's example of goodwill and service to humanity by inviting families, corporates and the broader public to participate in this year's annual event in the month of Madiba's birthday.

Spend your Mandela minutes participating in the Tafta Fun Walk and make a difference. Get the whole family involved and enjoy a fun morning together. Participants can choose to walk the 2 km route at a cost of R20 or the 5km route at R50- a fun and affordable way to make a charitable contribution.

The fun walk, which takes place on Saturday, 15 July, 2017, 8am sharp, is an easy 2km or 5km walk along the beachfront from the Amphitheatre to uShaka Marine World and back. Registration opens at 7am on the day. Save time by pre-entering online at ROAG.

"Tafta's fun walk is a wonderful event because it is not only a day of fun and activity for the whole family, but it is also an opportunity for individuals to contribute to the needs of the elderly community in their own small way. We encourage people of all ages, especially families, to show their support by participating in this charitable event," says Tafta Divisional Manager, Income Development and Marketing, Gail Samuels.

All proceeds from the event will further subsidise needy pensioners and provide the elderly with much-needed Winter Care Packs, which include grooming items and other essentials.

"At this time of the year, our elders particularly appreciate winter toiletries - to ward off dry chapped skin - along with soap, deodorant, adult nappies, toothpaste and shampoo," adds Samuels.

Once registered online, participants can go the extra mile by donating or bringing along a toiletry contribution towards Tafta's Winter Care Packs. You can also get further involved by volunteering at one of Tafta's care facilities or spend time with an elderly resident on Mandela Day or simply help with other tasks at the various facilities.

Pre-registration can be completed at https://www.roag.co.za and on-the-day registration begins at 7am at the amphitheatre.
