The Crescent

The Crescent

Date: 2014-03-21
Climate change is everywhere in the news. It seems like everyone's "going green". The Crescent wanted to take a few steps to make our shoppers aware of their activities and lifestyles to see how the concept of a "Green Economy" fits into it.

The campaign aims to give a human face to environmental issues; empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development; promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues; and advocate partnership, which will ensure all shoppers enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.

So, are you committing the 'energy crime' and you don't even realise it? How fast will the kids have to turn a merry-go-round to boil the water in the kettle? Have you ever wondered how a generator works? What about using wave energy for South Africa's long-term energy needs? And how much money can you save being more energy efficient? All your questions can be answered at "Give a New Life to Plastic Campaign at The Crescent, between the 18th and 28th March.

Various exhibitors will be situated in the promotional court to educate shoppers the importance and the benefits of reusing, reducing and recycling. Exhibitors, such as DSW, Solar Primeg, The Glass Recycling Company, Thermowise, RO3 Oasis Water, Honda Umhlanga, Crawford La Lucia Primary School. Izaka Plastics, will also be encouraging shoppers to purchase their brand of Supa Mama ª, which is a range of recycled refuse bags, manufactured using landfill diversion and recycling initiatives, to empower unemployed women who have children to support but lack resources to feed and educate them properly.

Shoppers will also be encouraged to spend at the Centre of an accumulated amount of R300 or more in order to qualify to receive a free "The Crescent" branded eco-friendly shopping bag.
